After eight years of Leisure System’s residency at Berghain, you might think another birthday is no big deal. But for our 8th anniversary on July 8th – marking eight years and 28 Berlin parties of pure genreless madness – we put our heads together to come up with a ferocious, era-spanning lineup that should have us and everyone else on the dancefloor celebrating in true Leisure System style.
“Basic Rhythm was always intended to be fun to listen to, fun to dance to and fun to mix.” We agreed with that statement wholeheartedly after hearing this year’s ‘Raw Trax’ LP, and so we’ve brought the former pirate radio DJ over for his debut performance under the Basic Rhythm name. He’ll play live in Berghain following the opening set from Leisure System resident Gonsher, and after that comes a trio of heavy-hitters downstairs: ghettotech pioneer and certified ass-shaker DJ Deeon, Italian techno hero Lory D, and eclectic selector and Miami bass maven Danny Daze.
For the thirty years he’s been making music, Egyptian Lover’s style has been frequently imitated and rarely replicated. A king of freak-funk, he’ll be highlighting the continued dancefloor impact of his electro classics and more in a hybrid live/DJ set in Panorama Bar. Also upstairs is a returning Leisure System favorite Paul Woolford, who balances the best of rave music across his various aliases. They’re joined by Moxie, a London staple with an addictive recurring show on NTS whose eclectic sets should be a perfect match for the summer vibes, while Leisure System co-founders N>E>D & Barker open and close the room.
